ATHLETIC PROGRAMS
Athletic success depends on a unique balance of mental and physical skills. Pilates offers the perfect blend of sport-specific training and overall general fitness. It is the perfect conditioning method for athletes, in particular, because it is addresses the body as a hold instead of focusing on one area. Because athletes rigorously repeat the same movement over and over again, they are particularly prone to muscle imbalances which can impair performance and lead to overuse injuries. Ideally, athletes need to establish stability before they initiate mobility. Our individually designed sessions will take you through sport-specific Pilates exercises that can help increase flexibility, while improving strength agility and endurance. Part of the value of Pilates is that it enables athletes to develop greater mind body awareness creating new insight into the connection between the physical and psychological components of movement, strength, and agility. Jason Kidd, New Jersey Nets Point Guard states, "I just try and keep a fine line of a little iron and a lot of the Pilates machine." Examples of programs we have designed for athletes include running, football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, tennis, golf, and equestrian conditioning.
"I came out of the season injury-free. I used to feel like crap after practice and games but not since Pilates." --Ruben Brown, Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl Offensive Guard
"I immediately discovered how tight I was. After one session I was energized. From that point on I was convinced. Pilates has made me quicker, more explosive." --Jason Kidd, New Jersey Nets Point Guard
"After a week I was turned around. After two I felt like I'd never before. Pilates never compromises your back. I've got more motion in my shoulders, midsection and legs. Pilates is going to add five, six, seven…years to my career." --Rocco Mediate, PGA Tour Pro

Teams that train together, perform better together. Pilates Team Training allows a group of athletes to share the hour of training while developing team building and accountability. Our instructors will meet with the coaches prior to the session to discuss goals, injuries, and programming. Sessions will be designed for sport-specificity and overall fitness training. All athletes will be introduced to the fundamental principles of Pilates Training for proper technique and execution. Sessions will include Matwork with props, and all Pilates equipment (Reformer, Vertical Frame, and Stability Chair). Jumpboard Interval Training can also be included to incorporate an aerobic component to resistance training. Many class options, including frequency, dates, and times are available and are part of the initial programming. We encourage a Free 30 minute Athletic Consultation with the coaching staff to allow them to try the equipment and experience the difference Pilates offers. Our experience has found that support from the coaches greatly increases the success of the course.
Private Pilates Training allows for optimum attention to sport-specific elements while improving necessary movement patterns. Private Training can optimize quicker benefits and results as each session is tailored specifically to the athlete. Each one hour session is dedicated to correcting muscular imbalances created by repetitive movements and overtraining while increasing flexibility and core stability. Proper neuromuscular firing patterns provide more efficient movement which translates to better performance. Sessions may also be conducted with another athlete at a semi-private rate when scheduled together. Please call (801)302-5720 to schedule a Free 30 Minute Athletic Consultation where you will able to experience the Pilates equipment and discuss programming goals.
Pilates is a non-impact conditioning program that allows the athlete to maintain flexibility, core stability, strength, and conditioning while avoiding muscle atrophy and tightness following an injury. Mentally, it allows the athlete to continue their conditioning when full workouts are not advised due to injury. When a method of conditioning can increase muscle balance, flexibility, movement integration of all body segments, and efficiency and fluidity of movement while preserving muscle tissue and allowing for maximal amounts of force in the most efficient way possible, it can't help but increase performance.
Pilates uses spring resistance to create a smooth, uniform, movement with equal tension throughout all phases of the movement. Additional resistance is provided by the user's body weight in various positions including kneeling, standing, sitting or lying on the equipment. The angle, or line of pull, from the resistance allows for a greater range of motion and the ability to mimic sport-specific movements as well as completely different ones. This creates muscle balance between opposing groups reducing the load on overused groups. Additionally, when muscles fire in the proper pattern, more efficient movement is produced and performance increases.
We can work closely with your physician, physical therapist, or trainer to enhance your rehab program. Pilates can greatly decrease your time away from the sport and maintain previous levels of conditioning while preventing any reinjury.
